RESEARCH JOURNALIST

Job Description:
​
The journalist will report on a variety of topics concerning Rincón, produce original news content based on interviews and public documents, complement it with photos, videos, infographics and other interactive media, upload it to a blog-style publisher, and manage social media accounts on a daily basis.

Job Responsibilities:

Regularly produce articles that incorporate interviews, public records, photos, videos, infographics and other interactive digital media, in both English and Spanish

Research public records at different municipal, state and federal agencies
-
Interview residents, business owners, experts, and public officials
-
Attend live events, meetings, public hearings and document these events with photos to accompany a story
-
Fact-check information
-
Upload all content to a blog-style publisher with a consistent style

Distribute articles via social media and participate in managing the outlet’s social media accounts
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Able to work minimum 20 hours a week, often independently

Bilingual (English and Spanish, written and oral)

Previous experience using a journalistic writing style (samples are required)

Working proficiency in MS Word and Excel or similar software

Reliable transportation to and from Rincón, PR on a frequent basis

Ability to work remotely and respond to communication from the rest of the team promptly

Ability to problem solve and find solutions independently
Desired Qualifications:
-
Experience requesting documents from municipal, state and federal agencies
-
Familiarity with local politics, environmental policy, and land conservation issues
-
College degree with a background in journalism or writing and communication
-
Photography skills
Compensation will vary based on previous experience and skill level
